Self Hypnosis Information

Self hypnosis is not a difficult technique to learn.  Anyone can learn this simple tool and apply it to help bring positive change and betterment to their life and those around them.  It is most often used to get rid of bad habits like smoking and overeating.  It can also be used to help change a person’s behavior or personality traits that they find is holding them back from reaching their full potential.  Such traits like social anxiety, shyness, or fear of heights are just a few traits that can be altered using self hypnosis.  This technique is easy to learn and with a little practice a person can start to see some real progress in a short amount of time.

The mind is made up of two different parts, the conscious mind and the subconscious mind.  Our everyday behaviors like our habits, the things that we enjoy or dislike, our general overall attitude will typically remain unchanged.  The reason for this is that over our lifetime we have been programmed in many different ways to these behaviors and habits.  It is through our life experiences, the decisions we have been forced to make and the skills we have learned that make us the person that we are today.  And overall we are happy with who we are.  But sometimes we feel that it is time to make a positive change to our life, yet our old habits and behaviors remain stuck in place despite our conscious decision and efforts to change them.  This is because these things are controlled by our subconscious and in a fight between our subconscious mind and our conscious mind, the subconscious will always win.  But what self hypnosis does is it allows you to gain access to the subconscious in order to reprogram it so that you can live a more positive and happy life.

When first learning self hypnosis many people are able to get themself into a light hypnotic state.  This can be accomplished by closing your eyes and counting down backwards from ten while exhaling on each number.  This relaxed state can be further heightened by a visualization technique.  By clearing your mind and focusing on a peaceful beach or forest we will be able to affect the  physiological, mental and emotional states just as if we were actually there.  The reason we are able to do this is because the brain is not able to differentiate the difference between what is real and what we are imagining in our mind.

Self hypnosis is a skill that can be learned by anyone and by consistent practice it can be greatly improved over time.  A lot of people who first start out learning self hypnosis find that they are easily able to get themselves into a relaxed state, but then lose focus because they are not sure what the next step is.  If you are undergoing hypnosis with a therapist they are able to guide you and direct you where you need to go to achieve the best results.  But in self hypnosis this is not possible because you are the one directing and guiding yourself.  In actuality the next step after you are in a relaxed state is to focus on self therapy.  So before you start your session you want to have a clear idea of what you want to get out of your session and how you are going to get there.  You want to sit down with your goals in mind and write a script.  You will use this script to repeat suggestions and ideas over and over in your mind.

A lot of people don’t realize that we enter a hypnotic state quite a few times a day.  It could be when we are reading a book or magazine, watching TV or listening to music.  The purpose with self hypnosis is to allow yourself the ability to gain access to that part of the mind and make the changes to help improve your life and well being.
